The Canottieri Lago d’Orta, in collaboration with the Piedmont Regional Committee and under the auspices of the Italian Rowing Federation, is organising on


Sunday 4th March 2007, 10.30 a.m.


2nd Italian Sculling Challenge: men and ladies, single start regatta in single sculls over a distance of 6.000 metres for the following categories: under 16s, under 18s, Seniors and Masters (A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H).
The Don Angelo Villa Memorial Trophy presented by the Italian Rowing Federation will be awarded to the winning rower.
At 14.30 p.m. will take place a single start regatta in skiff/7,20 for young rowers (aged 10-13) over a distance of 4.000 metres.

1. Course.
Start from the Nuovo Porto Turistico of Orta San Giulio, First turn around the Isle of San Giulio, second turn at Riva Pisola - finish at Golfo di Bagnera - Total distance 6.000 metres.

2. Entrance requirements.
The regatta is open to male and female athletes of the above categories who are registered for clubs affiliated to Italian Rowing Federation for the year 2007, or to the relevant National Rowing Federation of the club. All participants must produce a valid Identity Card (Italian under 16s and under 18s must also produce “yellow card”).
Non Italian participants must produce their National Rowing Federation and a valid Identity Card.
3. Boats
They will have requirements according to the Italian rowing Federation Code.

4. Cancellation of the regatta.
The regatta will only be cancelled in the case of adverse weather or water conditions.

5. Accreditation and timetable of the competition - regatta committee.
The regatta secretary will print a program and a course map, which will be displayed at the Canottieri Lago d’Orta and given to each participating club at the time of accreditation.
Accreditation: Sunday, 4th March 2007, from 08.00 to 09.00 at the Nuovo Porto Turistico di Orta San Giulio (Bagnera).
Single start regatta:
- course 1) Sunday, 4th March 2007, 10.00 a.m.: arrivals of crews at start; 10.30 a.m.: single start.
- Course 2) Sunday, 4th March 2007, 14.00 p.m.: arrivals of crews at start; 14.30 p.m.: single start.
Any other information of interests to the competitors will be displayed by the secretary at the Nuovo Porto Turistico di Orta San Giulio or announced over the public address system.
The regatta committee will be convened by the president of the jury every time he deems necessary, or if requested to do so by at least 1/3 of the competitors.

6. Pre – registration.
The deadline for pre - registration is 24.00, Tuesday, 27 February 2007.
Categories for which there are not at least three entrants will be cancelled and the athletes automatically registered in the category above.

The registration fee of 5 euro for under 16s and 15 euro for all other categories must be paid at the time of accreditation and includes a voucher for lunch which will be held at the end of the regatta in the Eurotenda in Pettenasco (No).

7 Withdrawal.
Athletes wishing to withdraw from the competition should communicate the fact by e - mail or fax by 18.00 of Thursday, 1st March 2007. Clubs failing to do so will incur the sanctions foreseen in the regatta code (article 20, comma d).

8 Regatta committee.
The regatta committee will meet on Wednesday, 28 March 2007, at 21.00, at Canottieri Lago d’Orta Club House to review the organisation of the regatta, check the registration and assign the start numbers

9. Prizes.
The following prizes in gold tokens will be given:
700 euro first place - men;
500 euro second place - men;
300 euro third place - men;
400 euro first place - ladies;
200 euro second place - ladies;
100 euro third place - ladies;
300 euro first placed club;
200 euro second placed club;
100 euro third placed club.
Medals: first, second and third place medals will be awarded to the first three oars men in each category. Each competitor will receive a t-shirt.
The winners of the male and female under 16s and under 18s categories will win a mountain-bike.
The winners of the male and female 10s, 11s and 12s categories will win a good prize.

The classification of the club will take into account participation and results: 5 points will be given to the winners in each category, three points to the second, 2 points to the third and 1 point to each competitor finishing the course.
The organizing club is excluded.
The Don Angelo Villa Memorial Trophy, presented by the Italian Rowing Federation, will be awarded in memory of Don Angelo Villa, founder of the Canottieri Lago d’Orta and passionate supporter of Champions large and small, mentor and chaplain to Italian oarsmen.
The trophy will be awarded to the two winners in the men and ladies categories; it will stay in the club House of the organizing club and will never be won outright. The two winners will each receive a photographic reproduction of the trophy in a silver frame.

10. Organisation.
Competitors’ numbers will be supplied by the organization.
Competitors should meet at the start at 10.00.
Directional buoys will indicate the course.

11. Starting order.
The starts will take place from rows of boats according to the number of competitors.
The boats will be arranged in the following order: Senior m/f, under 18s m/f, under 16s m/f, Master m/f.
Precedence in the starting order will be decided taking into account first of the results from Olympic Games and World Championships, second of the result in the past edition of this competition. All other competitors will start according to their order of registration.

12. Umpires.
The Umpires Commission of the Italian Rowing Federation will supply the umpires.

13. Assistance.
The assistance and first aid service will start 30 minutes before the start and will end 30 minutes after the last finish. Motorboats with blankets and safety equipment will carry out the assistance service.

14. Timekeeping.
The Italian Federation of Timekeeping will carry out the timekeeping.
15. Unforeseen circumstances.
For circumstances not foreseen in the present announcement, refer to the regatta code of the Italian Rowing Federation.
